Blessings to all, and welcome ohm once again. Lots of good news for you this month, including new releases, affordable housing, tasty treats, relief in Angola, and how to take back your time.
Where most like-minded groups try too hard to prove just how dub they really are, the Skanksters let the rootsy vibe build naturally, keeping the reverb and echo to a tasteful minimum. Loping, horn-heavy pop tracks are spiked with samples, tabla and clunky Wurlitzer riffs, with vocalist Tanya Kornobis wise enough to hold back and integrate her voice with the surrounding grooves rather than simply wail over top, while a couple of genuine dub versions show off the Skanksters' mixing skills. Originally released on Simmerdown Records in Portland, Oregon, we can't tell you how happy and honoured we are to re-release this gem on Ohm Grown Records in the next little while. Beautiful dubby tracks with signature style writing that gives hints of sounds and tones yet to come. Amongst our favourites on this CD are For You, a song about the new children (inspired by Skankster keyboardist Lisa Wilby's beautiful daughter Emma), New Line Dub, a song that talks about creating your path, and staying on it, and of course our all-time favourite, Hempsong, a song about the benfits of growing Hemp (more on this later in this newsletter). This sweet little number will have all of us skanking in no time (United we Stand - Divided we Fall - Who's gonna bring down the Government Wall?), and is guaranteed to bring down the house, white or otherwise.

In Southern Angola this year the MgM mine clearance teams have cleared numerous mined areas, eg: 3 roads around Cunene, Kuando Kubango. As more mined areas are cleared, more areas are located for clearance. In Cunene province this means moving further and further away from the main routes of communications in to the wooded and sandy interior. It is fortunate that MgM has vehicles of traversing through terrain like this, to carry out and complete these tasks.
With all this work, shortly conditions will be in place for a relocation of up to 400,000 people back to their homelands!! Sincere congratulations to the entire MgM team for the selfless service and land mine clearing work that is being performed year after year!

Speaking of abundance, let's have a closer look at what this moonth can bring to all of us. Many people have asked us about the nature of the 13 Moon Calendar, so here is a bit of information that can set you on the right path:
Based on the concept of true harmonic time, the 13 moon calendar operates on the principle that each month is 28 days long, representing the true time it takes for the moon to cycle around the earth once, and does so 13 times a year. A quick calculation reveals that this would bring our year to 364 days, with one extra, or bonus day, called the Day Out of Time. This day is not a day at all, but rather a day off, and is meant for global celebration of peace and unity! It will always fall on July 25th of each year. Some of you may recognize the 28 day cycle, as it represents the female menstrual cycle, also known as the cycle of fertility. It would of course make sense now to celebrate our Mother Earth as a living conscious entity of female birth and life giving qualities. Could it be that the creator energy itself is feminine? An even 28 day month of course represents harmonic time, in other words being in harmony with nature itself. Our current 12 month Greogorian calendar (named after Pope Gregory XIII) was brought to us by the Roman Imperial Empire (the word calend actually means taxes), and is based on paying off debts, ie: rent, bills, taxes, etc. It is a very uneven calendar of course, months fluctuating between 28, 29, 30, and 31 days, representing uneven and out-of-synch time. Followed for over 5,500 years,the 13 moon calendar is a universal refelection of perfect harmony primordially appearing in virtually all human cultures. The Lakota kept a 13 moon, 28 day count based on the "keya", or turtle, since the turtle has 13 scales on its back. The Essenes, Druids, Egyptians, Polynesians, Chinese, Maya, Inca and several Native American tribes, all used a 13 month, 28 day calendar, and many are still using it today. The 13 moon, 28 day calendar has been formally proposed as preferred alternative to the Gregorian calendar since 1849. The League Of Nations had scheduled to change the world standard calendar in 1993 to a 13 month, 28 day calendar, preferring its logic and regularity. This reform was strategically blocked by massive religious objection from representatives of the Catholic Church - the very source of the Gregorian Calendar - who made subjective claim that the break in the 7 day week for the 365th day of the year would anger God and cause "chaos, barbarism and war". Recognizing that the current state of our world is already saturated with chaos, barbarism and war, we advocate global calendar change to a 13 moon Harmonic Standard as an instrument of Planetary Peace.
Could there be more to life than just paying your bills every month? Each of the 13 moons has it's own Mantra (spiritual conduits, words or vibrations) or Action Directives, and it's own Totem Animal. To get you started, here are all 13 moons of the year, complete with their corresponding Gregorian dates for this cycle. While studying this keep in mind that the philosophy of the 13 moon calendar is not Time = Money, but rather Time = Art, in other words, time is what you create! Time is a vehicle for energy. Each year gives us the opportunity to create something new for us as humanity, and the Day Out Of Time of course is for us to celebrate our creations!

Before we end the Ohm Grown Good News newsletter, let's take a closer look at this moonth's Totem Animal. Native wisdom teaches us that we can learn about ourselves by studying the animal kingdom and our relationship to it, but we also learn about the animals themselves. This month's totem animal is the Lizard! 
Lizard brings the medicine of the dreamers, and is the shadow side of our reality. It is through Lizard medicine that we are able to look into our dreams, and decide if they are what we want in the physical world. It is our ability to manifest and create our own reality. In our dreams we imagine different futures and choose which we will materialize. Lizard teaches us the importance of respecting and remembering our dreams, incorporating the messages from our dreams into our lives.
Pretty Cool! So this month let's dream about Extending our Equality To Others, which for us involves lots of sweet Reggae Music, sustainable Earth Homes with lots of vegetables growing on top, a landmine free world and plenty of hemp ice cream for everyone to eat!

Some extremely good news right up front: Yes, there will be more Reggae!

Since 1937, about half the world's forests have been cut to make paper. If hemp had not been outlawed at that time, most would likely still be standing, oxygenating the planet. Hemp plants provide four times the paper fibre per acre per year than trees do - even plantation poplar trees - and can be planted again the next year. Previous to 1883, over 75% of the world's paper was made from hemp, much of it recycled from ships' hemp sails and ropes. 
Seeds of the plant cannabis sativa, hemp seed, contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. No other single plant source has the essential amino acids in such an easily digestible form, nor has the essential fatty acids in as perfect a ratio to meet human nutritional needs. The body's ability to resist and recover from illness depends upon how rapidly it can produce massive amounts of antibodies to fend off the initial attack. If the globulin protein starting material is in short supply the army of antibodies may be too small to prevent the symptoms of sickness from setting in. Hemp seed is the premier plant-seed provider of globulin starting material - the highest in the plant kingdom. Eating hemp seeds will insure the immune system has the reservoir of immunoglobulin resources needed to make disease destroying antibodies.
There are, of course, many ways of eating & digesting hemp. Since we are all also creatures of sensuality as well, one of our favourite ways of eating Hemp is ice cream!
During 2005 MgM demining teams have cleared all the remaining known minefields in the Ionde/Embundo area. This has now made it safe for cows and goats to be allowed to roam looking for fresh pasture. This also has made it safe for the boys and young men who spend time herding and looking after the animals. The airport at Ionde has also been cleared and ready for rehabilitation. This is a major asset for the provincial authorities to use to support this isolated population.
In Northern Angola, MgM will start work on clearing breaches through the minefield close to the State Hospital of N'dalatando. This should prevent any accidents taking place as people move from their villages outside the minefield on their trips to the hospital. Access is also being cleared to the cities water source and the village of M'banza Catumbi, to the south-east of the city. This has been carried out with a demining team utilising MgM's Rotar Mk1. Soon the provincial authorities will start work on the rehabilitation of the cities water system, reducing the need for women and children to carry water from wells and river sources.
More good news in the area of landmine clearance comes from Colin King, who has developed a set of playing cards that will help identify landmines in the fields. These cards can be used in the recognition of the most commonly used landmines and Unexploded Ordinances, and can be used as an extremly helpful tool for those who live near a landmine infected area.
The 13 moon calendar is a special gift brought to us by our friends the Mayans. One of the most ancient and developed people, by many considered to be a true "civilization", the Mayans are experts at deciphering the true meaning of time.
