September 20 to October 17, 2005 How can I best be of Service?
Blessings to all, and welcome ohm to the 3rd edition of the OHM GROWN newsletter. We have some great news for you, starting with our upcoming Nature of Hope Tour, featuring live performances by Odel Johnson and Boogiewall Soundsystem. We'll kick start the tour in Montreal on Wednesday October 5th at the El Salon alongside mighty DJ Mossman, and will continue over to Ottawa on Thursday October 06 for a show at Mavericks, with Ras Lee and the Roots World Music. MC for the night will be none other than Papa Richie from Ottawa's CHUO 89.1 FM We'll be hitting ohm territory on Friday October 14 with a another show at the Mod Club here in Toronto. Guest stars will include the mighty Jah Beng, Treson, DJ Chocolate and MC Carrie Mullings from CHRY 105.5 FM. We have to admit that we are very proud and excited to have been invited to perform at the Water Is Life Festival, organized by the Hopi Indigenous People in Arizona, USA. The festival starts on Saturday October 22, and we will have the honour of performing alongside the Native Roots! Hopi villages prepare for 2006 to run to Mexico City in March of next year, 24 Native American long-distance runners, Hopis from each of the thirteen villages and members of other Southwestern tribes and nations will carry sacred messages and teachings of water from Hopiland in Northern Arizona to the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico City, some 2,000 miles away. A guest lecture on how human consciousness affects water will be held by Dr. Masaru Emoto, whose brilliant water crystal photography from his Messages from Water books has been featured in the film "What The Bleep Do We Know?" Right now, run organizers, including Run Coordinator Ruben Saufkie Sr., are focused on having runners commit to participate in the event. Mr. Saufkie said that the total event is being planned to bring about healing through water. "We Hopis run not only for the Hopi people but for all of humankind and all living things. We all need water. We need renewing and healing of ourselves, our villages, and our world."
In case you were wondering what the Nature of Hope is all about: OHM GROWN Records recording artists have come together to bring awareness to the growing land-mine problem in Africa. Initiated as a grass roots campaign, The Nature of Hope's on-going mission is to aid in the complete re-establishment of African infrastructures, enabling our African families to return to and enjoy the harvest of their home land in safety and security.
OHM GROWN Records is also planning to release the first Nature of Hope compilation CD in 2006 with the voices and messages of today's conscious artists.
Famous Reggae historian Rogers Steffens, founder of one the genre's best magazines, The BEAT, says that Odel's Mind & Body Sold "is one of the best roots albums of the year by anyone, anywhere!"
And for those of you who are media, or who are considering becoming the media, here is the official press release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!
Universal Canada Distribution: On Tuesday September 13th 2005 Odel Johnson's feature solo CD "Mind & Body Sold" and Boogiewall Soundsystem's "Super My Own Band" were released nation-wide through Universal Music Canada. Released by OHM GROWN Records in Toronto with sub-distribution through Starcana/ Orange Records, the releases mark an important shift for conscious musicians across the globe. "Having access to big distributors like Universal Music is a blessing for our artists", says label president Oliver Meurer. "It opens the doors to major distribution in larger markets like the US and Europe, and working with Starcana/ Orange Records certainly ensures a professional working relationship amongst the various organizations and artists. We are now in an excellent position to let our creativity shine and focus on promoting our current and upcoming artists world-wide. We consider ourselves truly fortunate that we are able to create and release more conscious music, while at the same time co-create our visual campaigns in consensus with our artists. We are in the process of establishing new ways of working together collectively, with more independence and freedom for our artists, and that is definitely worth celebrating!" OHM GROWN Records is planning to add more conscious artists to their current line-up, and will follow up with additional CD, Vinyl and DVD releases later in the year. Famous Reggae historian Rogers Steffens, founder of one the genre's best magazines, The BEAT, says that Odel's Mind & Body Sold "is one of the best roots albums of the year by anyone, anywhere!" Meanwhile the Internet's foremost radio station Etherbeat.com says this about Boogiewall Soundsystem's Super My Own Band release: "If there was any justice in the world this would be massive!" Well, let there be justice ... The Nature of Hope Campaign: On Wednesday October 05 2005 OHM GROWN Records, Boogiewall Soundsystem and Odel Johnson are initiating The Nature of Hope campaign, with the mandate to promote positive solutions and awareness towards the continuing land-mine problem in Africa. Millions of mines and left-over explosives threaten the lives of people and animals in more than 60 countries on this planet. Wars have transformed thousands of square kilometers into death zones that nobody dares to enter. The relics of often long gone wars and armed conflicts kill, maim and mutilate the innocent on a daily basis. They don't differentiate between the elderly, men, women, children or animals. Different from all other weapons thought up by mankind they are inadvertently triggered by the victims themselves. 90% of mine victims are civilians, 50% of mine victims die on the way to the hospital. The manufacturing of a landmine is estimated at US$ 3.60, the cost of removing all the active mines worldwide is estimated at US $33 billion! Since Africa is the most affected and landmine-polluted region of the world, The Nature of Hope's on-going mission is to aid in the complete re-establishment of African infrastructures, enabling our African families to return to and enjoy the harvest of their home land in safety and security. OHM GROWN Records is planning to release the first Nature of Hope compilation CD in 2006 with the voices and messages of today's conscious artists. 25% of the net proceeds will be donated directly to MgM to help clean up landmines! MgM (Menschen gegen Minen/ People Against Landmines) is a humanitarian non-profit organization that has performed landmine clean-up operations in African countries such as Mozambique and Namibia, and has been removing land-mines in Angola for over 10 years, even throughout the civil war. With the support of our global community MgM can extend their operational fields to other African countries. MgM has chosen Odel's Hit Single "Fire in the Hole" as the official MgM de-mining song. The Nature of Hope Tour 2005: In the fall of 2005 OHM GROWN Records will embark on an international tour to promote The Nature of Hope campaign and the work of MgM. The Kick-Off show is booked for October 5th at the El Salon in Montreal with DJ Mossman. On October 6th the tour will stop in Ottawa and perform at the Maverick along side Ras Lee & the Roots World Music and MC Papa Richie (CHUO). Ottawa is an important key performance for the tour as the historical "Ottawa Convention" treaty to ban all anti-personnel landmines world-wide was signed here in 1997. A spectacular send-off show is scheduled for October 14th at the Mod Club Theatre in Toronto with special guests Jah Beng, DJ Chocolate (CKLN) and MC Carrie Mullings (CHRY) before the tour heads south to the U.S. Water is Life Festival: On October 22. 2005 The Nature Of Hope campaign is launching their U.S. tour with a performance by Odel Johnson and Boogiewall Soundsystem at the Hopi Water is Life Festival in Kykotsmovi, Arizona. Masaru Emoto, whose brilliant water crystal photography from his Messages from Water books has been featured in the film "What The Bleep Do We Know?" In addition to delivering sacred messages and related lessons of traditional science which recognize all waters as comprising a singular life -sustaining system, the Mexico run will bring critical information to Native and non-Native peoples living along the route, renew Hopi traditions and ceremonies of distance running, reaffirm Hopi clan origins and ties to the peoples of central Mexico, and re-establish collaborative efforts of respect among Southwestern tribes. Right now, run organizers, including Run Coordinator Ruben Saufkie Sr., are focused on having runners commit to participate in the event. Mr. Saufkie said that the total event is being planned to bring about healing through water. "We Hopis run not only for the Hopi people but for all of humankind and all living things. We all need water. We need renewing and healing of ourselves, our villages, and our world." The Nature of Hope tour will continue with key performances in the southwest and in California. OHM GROWN Records is looking forward to globally celebrating the day with you when Africa is landmine free! In Spirit: Join us in the Day of the Global Freedom Dance!
